Dear Rainbeau,
April is almost over? This year is flying by, so it’s no surprise that we’re on the cusp of a new season of dodgeball. I wanted to bake something special for my new batch of players for our Meet Your Team mixer. I couldn’t decide… chocolate chip cookies? Brownies? Peanut butter cup tarts? In the end I decided to do all three. Together.

This new Wilton Mini Pie Pan I got during Target’s post-Easter blow out seemed perfect for the monster cookie job.

Packaged up and ready to be handed out at the bar. From what I heard (from the kiss-asses on my team), they were delicious.

Dear Rainbeau,
This here pile of dirt is my latest baby. Yacht Club recently acquired this garden plot at the Jardin Del Rio Community Garden. This week we started some plants indoors (peppers, eggplant, and tomatoes) and have been prepping the soil for some sowing.
Happy Spring,
Rainbeau
Dear Rainbeau,
Last night was the first time I’ve ever decorated a Christmas tree other than our annual family tree. It was the first time I’ve decorated my own tree in adulthood. Was this magical experience shared with loved ones? Was a Bing Crosby record playing softly in the background? Did we simmer a pot of hot chocolate or cider and sip it as we leisurely decorated? Nope!
It was a rushed job, taking about 25 minutes (because the manager of the bar kept coming over insisting that we be finished). Awful Eurotrash was being dj’d so loud you had to yell to be heard. It was an unnecessarily stressful event. Quite the opposite of every other Christmas decorating experience I’ve had.
The fine folks at Yelp asked The Yacht Club if they’d like to be the recipient of their Christmas party’s suggested donation. Heck yes we would. So I spent yesterday getting decorations & supplies ready for the Christmas tree we would be contributing to the event. Between a couple things not going to plan (that’s a shocker) and the venue double booking, the evening was off to a rough start. But, as life always manages to do… things worked out. The other party cleared out, Yelp folks took over and we got our hands on a couple cocktails (that probably helped more than anything). Everyone who made a contribution was given a bottle opener. Yacht Club made a few new friends and some money. So, yay!

Dear Rainbeau,
Someone very important deemed October “Breast Cancer Awareness Month.” (Wouldn’t it be great if that meant breast cancer existed only in October?) In celebration of their love of boobs, The Yacht Club hosted a Ta-Ta Tournament and donated the proceeds to the Keep A Breast foundation.
I made “Boobled Water” (GET IT?) which was sold to the sweaty dodgeball players, I wrapped up the Bushmill prizes for the winning team, decorated with boob-shaped balloons, and set up a photobooth at the after party. Yay for boobs!

Dear Rainbeau,
This week on the last night of Summer Night Lights Yacht Club held a screen printing event at the Glassell Park rec center. We gave away over 100 American Apparel shirts to kids (and their parents) on which we screen printed on-sight. Prrrretty cool, huh?

Dear Rainbeau,
This weekend we had a BBQ for the Yacht Club’s new Saturday afternoon Venice league. I made some sweet anchor bunting, and hung up other nautical decorations. And I failed to take a single photo of the decorations. But I did put this dish of guacamole in this bowl of chips. So… there’s that.

Dear Rainbeau,
Who DOESN’T love bonfires! Last night a group of Yacht Clubbers met up at the beach for a lovely bonfire. We cooked sausages, we roasted marshmallows, we might have discreetly sipped some drinks. It was wonderful.

Dear Rainbeau,
This weekend the Yacht Club held a rapture themed dodgeball tournament: “The Last Dodgeball Tournament Ever”. I helped by planning a “Last Supper” evening for the team captains the night before. I decorated our room at the Griffin with (bizarre) Jesus, Mother Mary, and dodgeball artwork. My pet project were these saint candles made of ERYC holiness Chris & Craig.

Dear Rainbeau,
This weekend Good Magazine hosted a fundraiser for the Ciclavia next month. The Yacht Club hosted dodgeball in the parking lot, and inside I set up a bike friendly photo studio.

Hey Rainbutt,
I made this heart & anchor backdrop for photos at The Eagle Rock Yacht Club’s Valentine’s Day Tournament.
